Let's Revisit Marriage for a Minute

Technically, and according to the laws in most jurisdictions across the world, marriage is defined as a union between two people. Marriage, in most cultures, is also a public statement and profession of the personal commitment each person in the marriage is making to the other person. Marriage is the foundational basis for procreation and is globally recognized as an integral institution that must be maintained and nurtured, protected and even sanctified, if that society is going to continue in health and flourish.

Destroy marriage, compromise marriage, disrespect marriage, allow for marriage to be rebelled against – misunderstand marriage -- and the walls of the society that it holds up will crumble in no time.

Unfortunately, especially in the United States, a lot of people seem to lack a fundamental understanding of what marriage is and their attitudes are eroding when it comes to their reverence for the purpose of marriage and their overall respect for commitment. As a whole society is bent more toward individuality and self. We are becoming a nation where sensationalism surrounding affairs and infidelity have become acceptable. More than 50% of marriages in the U.S. today end in divorce. The media and the entertainment industries actually appear to be on a mission to dilute marriage and glorify divorce, sexual freedom and sexual promiscuity like it is a rite of passage into adulthood and the only really grown up thing to do.
